Maternity leave for Cuban house hubbies

Even men can get maternity leave in Cuba. Same goes for Canada. It's quite a deal for house hubbies.
Cuba's maternity law has been changed many times. When I was in Cuba, maternity leave for women was extended from one year to 18 months.
What I never realized is that fathers can take the leave and receive 60 percent of their salary for up to 40 weeks, according to this story in the Medicc Review. But in macho Cuba, most men don't take advantage of that.

Cuba also has more than 200 maternity homes where mothers can get care 24 hours a day. Several years ago, I went to a maternity home in Havana to interview some of the moms and take photos - a few are shown here.

Some of the women looked like they were bored out of their mind. It was a very tranquil place. But I guess that's better than being shot at.
