You see some pretty ragged street dogs in Cuba, but people love their pets. This guy was stationed on a roof. He's peeking through an opening to see what's going on below.
There is not a huge variety of breeds in Cuba. The longtime U.S. ban on trade with Cuba has to be a factor in that. Economic conditions also play a role. A lot of people simply don't have the money it takes to feed and care for a dog.
Canned and packaged dog food is a real luxury and many Cubans feed their dogs leftovers instead of store-bought food.
