Stop horsing around, Obama
A Texas newspaper calls the Obama administration's approach to Cuba is "hypocritical." An editorial in the Fort Worth Star-Telegram says:
The U.S. has been a trading partner with the Soviet Union when it was just as repressive as Cuba — or more so...
It has economic and diplomatic ties with China, which remains communist and has many human-rights issues...
And we have renewed diplomatic relations with Vietnam, a country with which America not so long ago fought a devastating war.
Obama has said that...the long-standing embargo will not be lifted until Cuba exhibits movement toward democratic and economic reforms. A vast majority of Americans already feel that the embargo should be lifted, and a growing number of Cuban-Americans support the idea.
Fifty years is a long time to hold a grudge. It is past due for the United States to move beyond this symbolic feud...
