In September 2008, I posted the photo, above, of Ukrainian teen-agers posing at the beach at Tarara. I wasn't using a fancy camera, but it picked up the storm clouds rolling in. The rain began a little while later and most people abandoned the beach.
The Ukrainians were my neighbors in Tarara. They and their relatives arrived not to vacation, but to seek treatment for radiation-related illnesses linked to the Chernobyl disaster. But they often went to the beach to relax and swim.
