Three-peso bills
The other day I went to the exchange house at the Hotel Nacional in Havana. The security guard warned me at the door: "We're almost out of money. We only have three-peso bills."
"That's OK," I told him. "It's still money."
Besides, I said, it can be hard to find change for 10- and 20-peso bills. So bring on the three-peso bills, I told him.
And I got quite a stack of dough in return. It almost made me feel rich. Now if only the U.S. dollar was worth more than 80 Cuban cents.
