Disclosure: I received fees and travel expenses totaling $8,000 during the six-month collaboration with the Center for Democracy in the Americas. The center gave me the money after receiving a $25,000 grant from the Christopher Reynolds Foundation. The foundation awarded the grant to the center to support the Cuba Money Project, a journalism initiative I started in 2010. See page 129 of Form 990 for details.
